Paragraph On Corruption
Corruption means dishonest or illegal
behaviour, especially of people in authority present in our country. There is
hardly anyone who is not well acquainted with the very word
"corruption". Today each and every government sector of the country
is rotten to the core because of the widespread corruption by the people who
are at the helm of power, by the officers, by the clerks, and so on. The country
has topped the list five times from the viewpoint of corruption. However there
practice are many reasons behind this galloping corruption. Thirst for power,
pelf, wealth, and money is the root cause of corruption. Greed, avarice and
dishonesty, nepotism, and favouritism also contribute to the cause of
corruption. It has corroded the economy, restarted economic growth, and
baffled the various development programmes. It should be checked, controlled, and prevented at any cost so that the country gets rid of this national malady
and sees the ray of hope for development and the people not involved in it can
have a sigh of relief and hope for the best and better days. Corrupt people
should be rewarded with due punishment. Even their wealth and money can be
confiscated and they may be meted with lifelong rigorous imprisonment. The mass
media, the papers, magazines, journals, articles, and above all the
consciousness of the enlightened people can play a vital role in curbing the
galloping corruption. Now is the proper time to raise voices, and take necessary
steps and punitive measures against the corrupted society.

According to Indian
Sociologist Ramanath Sharma, ‘’ in corruption, a person willfully neglects his
specified duty to have an undue advantage’’. A corrupted person takes
illegal advantages by neglecting duty and misusing power. Bribery, misuse of
power, nepotism, avarice for wealth, and social conditions are the root of
corruption. A corrupted person can do everything by himself. Social or state
value is fruitless to him. Eradication of corruption is the crying need for the
country’s greater interest. To make the country free from corruption, citizens
of all classes should be responsible, accountable, dutiful, and considerate.
Nepotism, favoritism, red-tapism, etc. should be dealt with an iron hand.
Besides, some important measures that should be taken are as follows: To ensure
worthy, justified, and consistent wages to meet the existing cost of living
especially for the labor class. To reform administrative channels with
liability and transparency- by strengthening the training of the police force and
the rightful discharge of their duties. To execute severe exemplary punishment
to corrupted people and miscreants by enforcing impartial, inflexible laws and
menacing penal codes. To drive healthy, religious, and pragmatic awareness into
the minds of the people in general against corruption through all mass media.
At present, according to Transparency International of Bangladesh (TIB) report,
Bangladesh has been marked as the most corrupt country in the world for the 5th time. We are involved in such activities
that at times we are surprised to see that corruption is the law. Corruption
begets corruption. It should be prevented urgently in all spheres of our
activities. Otherwise, we shall fail to build up a sound and potent generation.
We should look forward to ensuring a corruption-free society as well as a corruption-free
country. Now that an Independent Anti-Corruption Commission has been set up it
is very up and doing in tackling the problem of corruption. It is expected that
corruption will be brought under control within a short time.
