Eve teasing in recent days has become a
great problem for the common people, most of the time school and college-going
girls fall victim to Eve-teasing. Three or four teenage boys or even more
grown-up boys are seen standing at the corner of the road. They wear strange
fashionable dresses and long hair. Some of them smoke. When they see any young
girl or woman passing by, they pass comments towards them. At this, the girls or
women feel very embarrassed and dishonoured. Eve teasers do not hesitate
to tease the mother of a girl. As a result, the situation has become very difficult
for girls. If anyone protests Eve-teasing, the teasers become violent and
threaten the person who protests. They even threaten the girls with death or
physical torture. In this regard, it is very difficult to tolerate the
situation. Girls are afraid of going out. They even feel insecure about going to
schools and colleges. The government has become quite aware of stopping this
malpractice. The government has already empowered mobile courts to stop eve-teasing.
Anyone, convicted of harassment or stalking of women will face a year in jail
or a fine of about 70 dollars or both. The mobile court has given authority to
give punishment to the eve-teasers at once. Education Ministry has also
initiated with the declaration that 13 June is the Eve-Teasing Protection Day
which is encouraged to protect this social evil.

Eve teasing is a constant happening in
the lives of Bangladeshi girls and women. In fact, the whole Indian
sub-continental neighborhood is harassed by this discomfort. That shows a
certain sort of wrong mindset of men who cherish no respect for women’s
dignity. Eve teasing is a shocking experience for women. It can leave deep
psychological scars which can be hard to heal. Eve teasing has resulted in many
unfortunate events in the lives of women. Delusional parents are concerned
about the safety and honor of their daughters as it can literally ruin their
future. Ironically, teasing has dangerous consequences for women and not for
men as it can deprive them of their freedom, nutrition, and education. More
often than not the incident of eve teasing is blamed on the victims, i.e.
women. It is as if males have the license to indulge in any sort of lecherous
Behaviour and can go away with it. The patriarchal nature of our society has
not been able to deal with incidents of eve-teasing from the right perspective.
No one can explain the brunt of eve-teasing and sexual harassment better than
the female who has gone through it. The suffers from eve teasing feel
helplessness, anger, and frustration at not being able to do anything about the
incident. The incident of eve-teasing permanently damages the psyche of the
victims. It makes them suspicious about everything in life. Sexual harassment
or other forms of molestation also affect the personal and academic development
of women. The experience leaves them bitter and cautious for the rest of their
lives. The government, as well as conscious citizens, should come forward to
protect the eve-teasing.
