Story on An old Man And His Wife

Once there lived an old man upon the hills of Japan. He lived there with his wife who was much older than him. But she was a quarrelsome woman. She always quarreled with him and gave him no peace. So the old man was leading a very unhappy conjugal life. The old man had  a pet sparrow. He loved the sparrow very much. After his work, he would go to it. Both of them would talk and play together. But the heartless old woman did not like the sparrow at all. She always found fault with it. He did not give it anything eat. The old man  saw this. He was very sorry for the poor sparrow. But he could not do  anything for it, because he feared his wife very much. But one day the old man left his wife and went to an unknown place taking the sparrow with him. There they lead a happy life.
