Marium’s Fight Against Poverty
Marium is a daughter of very poor parents. At the age of fifteen, her parents gave her marriage with a very poor boy. He is very lazy. He does not do any work. So Marium works hard to support her family. In the meantime, she became the mother of a male child. Marium asked her husband to go to work and earn some money for his son. But he did not pay any heed to it. Marium thought that she might do something else to increase her income. In her childhood, she learned to do embroidery work in clothes. She brought plain sheets of saree from the shops and returned them after doing embroidery. She used to get take 150 per Saree. This opened her eyes. She went to the Grameen Bank and took a loan of taking 5000. She hired a shop in the local market. With the money, Marium bought white Saree piece from the mills at the wholesale rate. She along with her sister and other women embroidered the Sarees and sold them in the market. Her husband used to sit in the ship. Thus in two years time, Marium and her husband earned a lot of money. They repaid the loan, built a new house and lived happily. They had a daughter also. Marium and her husband wanted to send them to school.
