Paragraph On Shat Gambuj Mosque

In the mid-15th century, Islam spread up to the far-off mangrove forest of the Sundarbans near the seacoast in Bagerhat District by a saint Ulugh Khan. He was the earliest torchbearer of Islam in the Southern region of this subcontinent who preached Islam during the region of Sultan Nasiruddin Mahmud Shah (1442-59), known as Khalifatabad’ (Present Bagerhat). Khan Jahan adorned Bagerhat and some particular places with numerous mosques, tanks, roads, and public buildings. The most spectacular of which is the imposing multi-domed mosque in Bangladesh, known as the Shat Gambuj mosque. We thereby bus. My friend Happy and I with friends went there. At first, when we saw the mosque we were charmed. The mosque is roofed over with 77 squat domes, including 7 chauchala or four-sided domes in the middle row. The vast prayer hall is provided with 11 arched doors- west on east and 7 each on north and south for ventilation and light. It has 7 longitudinal aisles and 11 deep bays by a forest of slender stone columns. From these columns spring rows of endless arches, supporting the domes. The arches are six feet in thickness and have slightly tapering hollow and round walls. My feeling about the mosque is wonderful because the mosque is beautifully decorated with terracotta flowers and foliage. From 7 am. to 6 pm. I stayed there. It is a glory of our country that the mosque is situated in the district of Bagerhat.
