Paragraph On Sub-Regional Forum Or SAARC
The SAARC may be regarded as a Sub-Regional Forum in South Asia. It stands for the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation. It is a voluntary association of the seven countries of South Asia namely Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. In 1983 the declaration of SAARC, in response to the proposal made by Bangladesh was adopted, and finally, on December 8th, 1985 the head of the seven countries signed the charter to establish the SAARC. Afghanistan joined SAARC as a member at the fourteenth SAARC Summit, Delhi, in April 2007. SAARC Secretariat was established in Kathmandu on 16th January 1987. The Secretarial comprises the Secretary-General, Eight Directors, and general service staff. At present since 1 March 2011. Fathima Dhiyana Saeed of The Republic of Maldives is the tenth Secretary-General of the SAARC. The aim of SAARC is to fight against poverty and to work in cooperation on matters of mutual interest in the economic, social, technical, and cultural fields. The Association embodies the hopes and aspirations of millions of people in the region to work unitedly for the improvement of the quality of their lives, and for peace progress, and stability in the region. The first meeting of the SAARC was organized on two basic principles. The decision in the SAARC should be taken on the basis of unanimity and the bilateral disputed issues should not be included in the agenda. The establishment of SAARC is a historic event. This Sub-Regional Forum seeks to create a better climate of harmony, cooperation, trust, and understanding among the member countries.
