Price rise is a serious
bane to the economy of Bangladesh. The vast majority of consumers are very
badly affected by the continual rise in prices of daily necessities. Price rise
is caused by the short supply of commodities and inflation. The price rise that
results from the short supply of commodities is temporary. The prices come down
if their supply is enhanced. However, the price rise caused by inflation cannot
be controlled by easy efforts. Whatever may be the cause, price-rise brings
about a lot of hardship and suffering to the people. They find it difficult to
make both ends meet. They have to go without many things that are necessary to
lead a tolerable life. The poorer sections of the people are the hardest hit.
Price rise leads to widespread corruption and moral degradation.

daily necessities. Today price spiral is a common phenomenon in our economy.
The price of essential commodities is increasing by leaps and bounds. The
causes of the price spiral are many. Hoarding is one of the important factors for
soaring price levels. People hoard essential commodities with ill motives
and as a result, there is a breakdown in the supply. Smuggling and
black-marketing are also important factors that cause a price spiral. Essential
commodities are always being smuggled across the border. Shortage of supply due
to low production also accelerates the price-hike of essential goods. Our
population is increasing in geometrical progress. While the supply of food
increases in arithmetical progress. For this, the supply of goods could be better in comparison to our demands. However, efforts should be made and necessary
actions and proper measures should be taken to tackle the situation. Hoarding
should be controlled. Smuggling and black-marketing are to be eradicated.
Adequate supply of essential commodities is to be ensured. Last of all
government should launch a programme to tackle the price spiral problem.
