Introduction:
Education
is one of the basic needs of a human being. No nation can progress without it. In
our country, the literacy rate is increasing. People’s interest in higher
education is also increasing. In our country, we have universities to accept
higher education. We have public and private universities. Public universities
are totally controlled by the government while private universities are
owned by individuals. It is the personal property of an individual or a
group of people. It is run and controlled by those who own it. Of course, they
must follow some rules and regulations imposed by the government.
Necessities
of private universities: The necessities of private universities originate
from the shortage of public universities. We have a limited number of public
universities which is too short to be compared to the increasing number of
students. But owing to financial and resource constraints the government is
unable to set up the requisite number of universities. To meet the demand of
the time, private universities came into being in different parts of the
country with the responsibility of spreading education in the country.
Conditions
in our public universities: The public universities that we have in
our country are open to all. Education in a public university is very cheap
compared to that of a private university. A limited number of students get the
opportunity to study there. But students from all over the country take part in
the competition for admission tests. Very few students get a chance to complete
their higher education in public universities. Nowadays public
universities have many problems. They are now troubled by politics and
violence. Sometimes the universities are closed down since die. As a result,
session jam occurs affecting the normal course of academic progress.
Education
in a private university: Even after getting a chance in public universities
the students do not get the desired subject. That’s why many students prefer
private universities. Private universities are sun by some capable private
individuals whose aim is to make a profit along with imparting education. So they
try to maintain discipline. There is no politics and violence since there
is no session jam. Many students and conscious guardians feel inclined to these
universities. Education in private universities is very much expensive.
Only rich people can afford to educate their boys and girls. The number of
students is limited and the environment is calm and serene which is congenial
to academic pursuit. These are some features that allure some guardians and
students to get themselves admitted into private universities.
Problems
of private universities: Private universities are sponsored with a
commercial motive. Instead of examining quality education, the authority
considers making a profit to be their only motto. Her education has become only a commodity of which the students
are the customers. The sponsors seek to produce the thing at a minimum cost
and sell it at the maximum price. So examining quality education is denied here.
Most universities do not have their own campus. They lack infrastructural facilities. There is an absence of co-curricular and
extra-curricular facilities. Library and laboratory facilities are very
limited. In some private universities academic activities are run by
part-time teachers since they have very few regular teachers.
Steps
taken by the authorities: the Government is very much vigilant in improving the
condition of those private universities which are not the mark. The education
ministry and the University Grant Commission have started close monitoring of
the performance of private universities. So laws ensuring quality education
have already been introduced. Some universities have already been given show cause
notice. They are given a deadline to improve their quality and to have a campus
of their own. The steps taken by the government have already improved the
universities a lot.
Conclusion:
It is true that some private
universities have some drawbacks and limitations but, by and large, they are
rendering quite a laudable service in the education sector of the country. Some
of them try to maintain a very high standard of education. Let us hope all the
private universities will fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the nation coming from all of their limitations and drawbacks.
