Introduction:  Education is the harmonious development of body, mind and soul. It is a blessing, a blazing star in our dark mental horizon. It is a key which unlocks a new world for people in ignorance. Without education, no man can prosper in life. So education is needed largely. Primary education is the basis of all education.

What is it: the meaning of compulsory primary education is that every boy and girl of a fixed age is required to have primary education with the assistance of the state. It is the responsibility of the state to ensure primary education for all its citizens and so the state has made primary education fully free.



Importance of primary education: Primary education is important because it is the base of education. Those who are deprived of primary education lag behind in life. It removes illiteracy from the country and helps to spread education in the country.



The primary education of Bangladesh: Bangladesh is beset with many problems. A large portion of its children has not yet got the opportunity to go to primary school. There are about 44000 primary schools in our country which are not sufficient to provide accommodation for all the children. If primary education in Bangladesh is given top importance and if we are able to advance forward in a planned and disciplined way we will be successful.



Notion of illiterate people towards education: Most of our people are illiterate. They do not realize the importance of education. They think that there is no relation between them and education. They also comprehend that if their issues are educated they will neglect physical labour. They engage their children in different work to earn money to support their family. Considering all these problems primary education has been made free and compulsory.



Measures Taken:  To materialize compulsory free primary education programmes successfully we have to eradicate the problems that stand in the way of it. The illiterate parents should be made to realize the importance of education. More schools should be set up and the poor students should be provided with books, pens, dresses etc. free of cost. The government has already taken some steps to make compulsory primary education programmes a success. Primary education has already been made free and books are provided by the government for the children belonging to classes I to V.



Conclusion: the progress and prosperity of our nation depend on the removal of illiteracy. The compulsory primary education programme is a step to eradicate illiteracy in the country. We expect that for the development of our nation, this programme must be translated into reality and our people will rise to prosperity step by step.
