Essay On Culture and Society
Introduction: Culture is what are and civilization is what we have achieved.
Culture is the combination of customs, traditions, art, music, dance, and
literature that are found in a particular society. It is an attitude which is
expressed by civilized men in society. As it is a product of intellectuality,
it is regarded as a social distinction.
Man’s Nature: Human nature is a very peculiar thing. Nature once formed takes a long-standing struggle to be cultured. It is difficult to inject one’s nature into another’s life. True culture means that its elements must properly be reformed so that a balanced temperament may be produced. A cultured person makes it his duty in life to study perfection and to make it prevail in the activities of his life.
Meaning of culture: Culture means the gift of nature, environment, customs, fine
qualities like education, music, dance, manners, and ways of life that confine man
to a kind of social distinction. Its value and influence would be limited. The
modern age is tending to a gradual removal of differences between man and man as
well as between class and class. The practicing of a sweetness of
temper and achievement of the light of understanding may be defined as the aim
of a person who desires to represent culture through his activities. As one
keeps in contact with the best that man has said and done regarding literature,
philosophy, history, and sociology, one can make one’s mind broad and sublime with
regard to thoughts and ideas. And thus a man has come to acquire value and
significance in social life which was not thought of in the past.
The pursuit of culture: the pursuit of culture depends on the basic conditions of
education and leisure. Culture being the desirable condition of life, It is
available in all alike. There should be a condition in which education is made
free at all ages to ensure leisure for every worker to inspire him to enjoy the
privileges of culture. This condition of acquiring knowledge for the enrichment
of culture will make him open-minded to the creation of new ideas.
Society: a society is an
association where the members are united for achieving a common end and for
materializing its purposes. An uncultured society cannot achieve its objectives. It
always lags behind in respect of culture and education. In this kind of society, there is no change. It cannot adjust itself to the circumstances
of a changing society.
Differences between Western culture and Eastern culture: Eastern culture is old, ancient,
obsolete, and outdated but Western culture is modern, up-to-date, and fashionable.
Eastern culture dominates our country and our acceptance of the improvement of our
culture. We the people of Eastern culture, can accept the merits of Western
culture and improve our culture by reformation. We must accept what is logical,
rational, reasonable, and truthful in Western culture. We should cordially
receive good manners, technical aptitude, and swiftness from the Western
culture. We must not accept the decline of moral values. An efficient educational
system, engineering skills, technologies, and medical research results have to
be accepted for our prosperity.
Conclusion: Culture
and society go hand in hand. Culture has its existence in society and society
expresses itself through culture.
