Introduction: Garment industries are the kind of employment that removes the unemployment problem to a great extent. It not only eradicates the unemployment problem but also earns a lot of foreign currency. So, it is a great source of national income. It provides ample jobs, especially to our women folk, and helps us to enhance national progress by making the economic foundation strong.


What the garment industry means:  It is a large-scale industry for making garments/dresses. The garment industry is generally located in a building in which shorts, shirts, trousers, pants, and sweaters are sewn. Mainly women in our country are the workers in the garment industries. Seamstresses are greater in number than tailors.



Removal of unemployment problem:  Lacs of women is employed in our garment industries. Many workers, especially women are employed in these industries. The garment industry saves lacs of people from the curse of poverty by employing them in it. It removes the unemployment problem of the people and offers them economic emancipation. This removal of unemployment brings peace and tranquility to our nation.



Uses of garment industries: The prospect of garment industries knows no bounds at present. A lot of people maintain livelihoods serving in this industry. The products of these garment industries have a worldwide market. The garments have a great demand in many developed countries of the world. Our garments have a monopoly regarding the market in those countries. Thus garment industries bring a lot of foreign currency into our country. They are prospective both for the individuals and for the nation as a whole.



Cheap labour cost: The labour cost in our country is cheaper than that of other countries. So, it is easy to set up garment industries in plenty in Bangladesh. So, our government earns much foreign exchange at very low expenses. Factory owners pay the workers very low wages. Many women join the industries to face the challenge of life. Without sitting at home uselessly they join the garment factories and get some money for maintaining their livelihood. There is a bright future for garment factories in Bangladesh.



Turning manpower into an asset: Bangladesh is a populous country where a lot of people are unemployed. Unskilled people in our country are engaged in agriculture for a certain period of the year. Most of the women who are housewives only are liabilities. Nowadays they are not liabilities. After the introduction of the garment industry, many people have become assets. They are no more burdens of our society. Women of our country are not burdens on the shoulders of their husbands. Garment industries have made them self-reliant.



The exploitation of workers: The helpless women serve as workers in the garment industries. Sometimes the garment workers are tortured. They are ill-paid. The owners of mills and factories exploit their manpower by paying them low wages. They are teased on the way to their working places and also on their way home. The illiterate people of our country cannot take it easy. The manpower of the workers is not properly utilized.



Conclusion: The garment workers are skilled ones. Their manpower should be properly utilized. Rules and regulations should be adopted to maintain their rights and to stop their exploitation. The economic condition of both the individuals and the nation depends on garment industries. The expansion of the industry is necessary for the prosperity of our country. There should be a permanent contract between the importing countries and Bangladesh so that our country may not be exploited. The exporting condition should be exploitation free.
