স্মরণীয় যে, Conjunction এর ব্যবহার জানার পূর্বে নিম্নের পাঠগুলো সম্পর্কে পূর্ণাঙ্গ ধারণা থাকতে হবে –

Conjunction কাকে বলে? Conjunction কত প্রকারও কি কি?

Coordinating Conjunction কাকে বলে? Coordinating Conjunction কত প্রকার ও কি কি?

Subordinating Conjunction কাকে বলে? Subordinating Conjunction কত প্রকার ও কি কি?

 

 

বাক্যে Conjunction এর ব্যবহারঃ

⇘ As if / as though: এদের অর্থ “যেন”। এদের পূর্ববর্তী Clause এর Verb টি Present Tense এর হলেও পরবর্তী Clause এর Verb টি Past Simple হবে। যেমন –

He talks as if he was mad.

He talks as though he owned the car.

⇘ As:

‘রূপে’ অর্থেঃ I offer myself as a candidate for the post.

‘কারণ’, ‘যেহেতু’ অর্থেঃ Everybody believes him as he is honest.

‘যদিও’ অর্থেঃ Poor as he is, he is honest.

⇘ As…as, so…as: সমান সমানের মধ্যে তুলনা বুঝাতে Affirmative এ “as…as” এবং Negative এ “as…so বা as…as” ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন –

This paper is as white as milk.

He is not as (so) tall as I.

⇘ Both…and: এগুলো দ্বারা দুটি সমজাতীয় Noun বা Adjective বা Verb যুক্ত হয় এবং এদের পরে Plural Verb হয়। যেমন –

We should both love and honour him.

নোটঃ Both এর পরে কখনও as well as ব্যবহৃত হয় না।

Incorrect: Both Sakib as well as Habib went there.

Correct: Both Sakib and Habib went there.

⇘ As well as, with, together with: এদের দ্বারা দুটি Subject যুক্ত হলে প্রথম Subject এর Number ও Person অনুসারে Verb এর Number ও Person ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন –

He as well as his brother is well.

Mr. Habib together with his five sons has done this.

⇘ Either…or, neither….nor: এদের দ্বারা দুটি Singular Subject যুক্ত হলে Verb টি Singular হয় কিন্তু Subject দুটির একটি Plural হলে Plural Subject টি পরে বসে এবং Verb টি Plural হয়। যেমন -

Either he or his brother has done this.

Either he or they have said so.

Neither Habib nor his brothers have done this.

নোটঃ either…or, neither….nor এরা দুটি সমজাতীয় শব্দ কে যুক্ত করে।

⇘ Not only…but also: এগুলোও দুটি সমজাতীয় শব্দ কে যুক্ত করে। যেমন –

He gave me not only food but also shelter.

⇘ That:

‘উদ্দেশ্য’ প্রকাশ করতেঃ We eat that we may live.

‘ফল’ প্রকাশ করতেঃ He is so weak that he cannot walk.

⇘ Lest: একটি Negative অর্থ প্রকাশ করে। যদি এর দ্বারা কোনো Clause শুরু হয় এতে no বা not ব্যবহৃত হয় না এবং এর পরবর্তী Verb এর পূর্বে Should বসে। যেমন – Drive fast lest we should miss the train.

 

⇘ Unless: এর অর্থ ‘যদি না’। এটিও Negative অর্থ প্রদান করে। এর দ্বারা যদি কোনো Clause শুরু হয় তাতে no বা not ব্যবহৃত হয় না। যেমন –

Unless you start now you will miss the bus.

⇘ Until: এর অর্থ ‘যে পর্যন্ত না’। এটিও Negative অর্থ প্রদান করে। এর দ্বারা যদি কোনো Clause শুরু হয় তাতে no বা not ব্যবহৃত হয় না। যেমন –

Wait until all the members arrive.

Wait here until I return.

⇘ Since: এর অর্থ হলো ‘থেকে’। এটি যখন Linking Word রূপে ব্যবহৃত হয় তখন দুটি Clause কে যুক্ত করে। এর পূর্ববর্তী Clause এর Verb টি Present Simple বা Present Perfect হয় এবং পরবর্তী Clause এর Verb টি Past Simple হয়। যেমন –

It is one month since I received your letter.

Five years have passed since his father died.

⇘ Before: এর অর্থ হলো ‘আগে’। এটি নিম্নলিখিত নিয়মে ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন –

Past Perfect Tense + before + Past Indefinite Tense =>

I had read the letter before I burnt it.

Future Perfect Tense + before + Present Indefinite =>

I shall work out the sums before the teacher comes.

 

⇘ After: এর অর্থ হলো ‘পরে’। এটি নিম্নলিখিত নিয়মে ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন –

Past Indefinite + after + Past Perfect =>

I burnt the letter after I had read it.

Present Indefinite + after + Present Perfect =>

I work in the garden after I have returned from school.

⇘ Because: ‘কারণ’ বুঝাতে। যেমন –

He could not come to class because he was ill.

⇘ That, so that, in order that: ‘উদ্দেশ্য’ বুঝাতে এবং এদের পরবর্তী Verb এর পূর্বে may বসে।  যেমন –

Read attentively that or so that or in order that you may do well in the examination.

We eat that or so that or in order that we may live.
