Right form of verbs এর ব্যবহার। Subject যদি Singular হয় তাহলে Verb টিও Singular হবে এবং Subject যদি Plural হয় তাহলে Verb টিও Plural হবে।

Rule 1: Subject যদি Singular হয় তাহলে
Verb টিও Singular হবে এবং Subject যদি Plural হয় তাহলে Verb টিও Plural হবে। যেমন
–
Q. I (be) a Degree 3rd year
student.
A. I am a Degree 3rd year
student.
Q. They (be) waiting for me.
A. They are/were waiting for me.
Q. He (Have) a car.
A. He has a car.
নোটঃ
👉 Right form of Verbs এ প্রশ্নে ব্রাকেটে যদি (be) থাকে তাহলে Tense অনুযায়ী be এর পরিবর্তে am/is/are/was/were/be/being/been ইত্যাদি বসে এবং যদি ব্রাকেটে (have) থাকে তাহলে have এর পরিবর্তে have/has/had ইত্যাদি বসে।
Rule 2: Adjective এর পূর্বে Determine
‘the’ যুক্ত হলে Verb টি Plural হয়। যেমন –
Q. The poor (be) not always unhappy.
A. The poor are not always unhappy.
Rule 3: Singular subject ‘and’ দ্বারা যুক্ত
হলে Verb টি Plural হয়। যেমন –
Q. Maha and Shanzida (be) two sisters.
A. Maha and Shanzida are two sisters.
Rule 4: Uncountable noun (যা গণনা করা যায়
না। যেমন – Material এবং Abstract Noun) এদের সঙ্গে Singular verb বসে। যেমন –
Q. Her hair (be) black.
A. Her hair is black.
Q. Honesty (be) the best policy.
A. Honesty is the best policy.
নোটঃ
👉 কতগুলো Uncountable Noun এর তালিকাঃ- air,
smoke, water, milk, sand, grass, salt, honesty, sympathy, tennis, earth,
cotton, cooking, parking, training, love, advice, information, knowledge ইত্যাদি।
👉 Material noun এবং Abstract noun এর সঙ্গে
Singular verb বসে।
Rule 5: দুটি Singular noun যদি একটি বস্তু
বা ব্যক্তি বুঝায় তবে Verb singular হয়। যেমন –
Q. The horse and carriage (be) at the
gate.
A. The horse and carriage is at the
gate.
Q. The rise and fall of life (be) due
to one’s activities.
A. The rise and fall of life is due to
one’s activities.
Rule 6: And দ্বারা যুক্ত দুই বা দুইয়ের অধিক
Subject যদি পৃথক পৃথক ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুকে নির্দেশ করে সেক্ষেত্রে Verb plural হয়।
যেমন –
Q. Air and Water (be) two important
elements of the environment.
A. Air and Water are two important
elements of the environment.
Q. Maha and Shanzida (eat) rice now.
A. Maha and Shanzida is eating rice
now.
নোটঃ
👉 Singular noun এর পূর্বে Article
‘the’ একবার বসলে তাহলে Verb singular বসবে এবং Singular noun এর পূর্বে Article
‘the’ দু’বার বসলে তাহলে Verb plural বসবে (দু’বার Article বসলে ভিন্ন ভিন্ন ব্যক্তি
বুঝায়)। যেমন -
Q. The MP and Minister of the Sangsad
(come)
A. The MP and Minister of the Sangsad
is coming.
Q. The MP and The Minister of the
Sangsad (come)
A. The MP and The Minister of the
Sangsad are coming.
Rule 7: যদি Singular এবং Plural Subject
or, nor, either…..or, neither…..nor দ্বারা যুক্ত হয় তখন Plural subject টি শেষে বসে
এবং Verb টি Plural হয়। যেমন –
Q. She or her friends (do) this work.
A. She or her friends have done this
work.
Q. Neither she nor her sisters (be)
absent.
A. Neither she nor her sisters were
absent.
Rule 8: যখন Subject এ বিভিন্ন Person –
or, nor, either….or, neither….nor দ্বারা যুক্ত হয় তখন শেষে যে Person এর Subject
বসে, Verb সেই Person অনুযায়ী বসে। যেমন –
Q. Either he or
I (be) mistaken.
A. Either he or I am mistaken.
Q. Neither you nor she (be) beautiful.
A. Neither you
nor she is beautiful.
Rule 9: Every,
each, any, everyone, someone, anything, noting, no ইত্যাদি Singular subject হিসেবে
কাজ করে এবং তাদের Verb ও Singular হয়। যেমন –
Q. Every flower and every fruit (be)
the gift of God.
A. Every flower and every fruit is the
gift of God.
Q. Someone (be) present there.
A. Someone was present there.
Q. Nothing (be) useless in earth.
A. Nothing is useless in earth.
নোটঃ
👉 Each যদি কখনো Plural subject কে নির্দেশ
করে তখন verb plural হয়।
Q. The pupils each (has) to take the
competition.
A. The pupils each have to take the
competition.
Rule 10: কিছু কিছু Noun আছে যাদের দেখতে
Plural মনে হলেও তারা প্রকৃতিপক্ষে Singular verb কে নির্দেশ করে (news, wages,
politics, civics, whereabouts, statistics, and mathematics) ইত্যাদি। যেমন –
Q. The news (be) false.
A. The news is false.
Q. Civics (be) my favourite subject.
A. Civics is my favourite subject.
Rule 11: কিছু কিছু Noun আছে যাদের দেখতে
Singular মনে হলেও তারা Plural verb কে নির্দেশ করে (people, police, dozen,
cattle, gentry, folk, poultry) ইত্যাদি। যেমন –
Q. Cattle (be) grazing in the field.
A. Cattle are grazing in the field.
Rule 12: যদি ভিন্ন Number / Person এর
subject ‘and’ দ্বারা যুক্ত হয় তাহলে verb plural হয়। যেমন –
Q. You, he, and I (be) friends.
A. You, he, and I are friends.
