প্রিয় শিক্ষার্থীবন্ধুরা, আশা করি ভালো আছেন। Notesaid24 ওয়েবসাইটে আপনাদের স্বাগতম। গত ব্লগে Narration বা উক্তি কাকে বলে? এবং কত প্রকার ও কি কি? এই নিয়ে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করেছি। আজ আপনাদের মাঝে Sentence এর মধ্যে Narration কীভাবে ব্যবহার করা যায় তা নিয়ে উদাহরণসহ বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করবো । তবে এই ব্লগটি দেখার পূর্বে Narration বা উক্তি সম্পর্কে মৌলিক ধারণা রাখা জরুরি। তাহলে শুরু করা যাক।

Assertive sentence এর বর্ণনাঃ Assertive
sentence কে Direct speech থেকে Indirect speech এ করার নিয়ম –
গঠনপ্রণালীঃ Subject + Say/tell + Object
(যদি থাকে) + that + Reported speech এর Subject + Verb + বাকি অংশ। যেমন –
Direct: He says, “I can do the sum”
Indirect: He says that he can do the
sum.
Direct: The teacher said to me, “You
are right”
Indirect: The teacher told me that I was
right.
Direct: Maha said, “I am reading a
novel”
Indirect: Maha said that she was
reading a novel.
নোটঃ
⇘ Say/said এর পরে To বসলেও Tell/told এর ক্ষেত্রে
to উঠে যায়।
⇘ Reporting verb এ Object না থাকলে ‘say’ এবং
Object থাকলে ‘tell’ হয়। Indirect speech That এর পূর্বে ‘said to him, said to
me’ ইত্যাদি না বসিয়ে এদের পরিবর্তে ‘told him, told me’ ব্যবহার করা ভালো।
Interrogative sentence এর বর্ণনাঃ
Interrogative sentence কে Direct speech থেকে Indirect speech এ করার নিয়ম –
👉 Reporting Verb টি উঠিয়ে ‘ask/enquire
of/demand of’ বসে।
👉 Reported speech এর শুরুতে যদি Auxiliary
verb (am, is, are, was, were, shall, will, can, could, have, has, do) থাকে এবং এর
উত্তর যদি Yes বা No হয় তাহলে Reported speech এর পূর্বে “if / whether” বসে।
👉 প্রশ্নবোধক চিহ্ন উঠে যায় এবং Sentence টি
Assertive হয়। যেমন –
Direct: Habib said to me, “Are you
ill?”
Indirect: Habib asked me if I was ill.
Direct: He said to me, “Did you go to
College yesterday?”
Indirect: He asked me whether I had
gone to College the previous day.
Direct: “Is not poverty a curse?” my
father said to me.
Indirect: My father asked me if poverty
was not a curse.
Direct: “Are you weeping?” he asked
her.
Indirect: He asked her if she was
weeping.
⇘ Reported speech এর শুরুতে Wh-Question
(who, what, where, why, how, which, whom) ইত্যাদি প্রশ্নবোধক শব্দ থাকলে এগুলোর পূর্বে
“if/whether” না বসে ঐ প্রশ্নবোধক শব্দগুলো Indirect speech এ থেকে যায়। যেমন –
Direct: He said to me, “What do you
want?”
Indirect: He asked me what I wanted.
Direct: “Where do you live?” asked the
stranger
Indirect: The stranger asked (him)
where he lived.
Direct: I said to the woman, “Who are
you?”
Indirect: I asked the woman who she
was.
⇘ Interrogative sentence এ ‘would,
please, kindly’ ইত্যাদি “বিনয়” শব্দে ব্যবহৃত হলে এদের পরিবর্তে ‘Politely’ ব্যবহার
করা যায়। যেমন –
Direct: He said, ‘would you accompany
me, please?”
Indirect: He asked me politely if I
would accompany him.
Imperative sentence এর বর্ণনাঃ
Imperative sentence কে Direct speech থেকে Indirect speech এ করার নিয়ম –
👉 Reporting verb টিকে ভাব/অর্থ অনুযায়ী ‘order, command, advise,
request, tell, beg, ask, encourage, entreat, invite, recommend ও forbid’ ইত্যাদি
Verb এ রূপান্তরিত হয়।
👉 দুই অংশের মাঝে to infinitive বসে। তবে
Negative Imperative Sentence এর ক্ষেত্রে দুই অংশের মাঝে not to বসে।
গঠনপ্রণালীঃ Subject + order, command,
advise, request, tell, beg, ask, encourage, entreat, invite, recommend ও forbid
+ object (যদি থাকে) + to + Reported speech এর মূল verb থেকে শেষ অংশ পর্যন্ত। যেমন
–
Direct: He said to me, “Give me a book”
Indirect: He told me to give him a
book.
Direct: He said to me, “Please help me”
Indirect: He requested me to help him.
Direct: Maha said, “Don’t make a noise”
(Negative Imperative)
Indirect: Maha ordered them not to make
a noise.
Direct: Father said to me, “Do not tell
a lie” (Negative Imperative)
Indirect: Father advised me not to tell
a lie.
Direct: The captain said to the
soldiers, “Fire on”
Indirect: The captain commanded the
soldiers to fire on.
⇘ Direct speech এ কাউকে সম্বোধন করা হলে নিম্নের
নিয়মে Indirect speech এ রূপান্তর করতে হয়।
গঠনপ্রণালীঃ Addressing + Reporting verb
এর Object (যদি থাকে) + as + যাকে/যাদেরকে সম্বোধন করা হয়েছে + Reporting verb এর
Subject + Reporting verb + to + Reported speech এর মূল Verb থেকে শেষ পর্যন্ত। যেমন
–
Direct: He said to them, “Friend, help
me”
Indirect: Addressing them as friends he
requested them to help him.
⇘ Reported speech টি Let দ্বারা শুরু হলে এবং
তা দ্বারা প্রস্তাব (Proposal) বা পরামর্শ (Suggestion) বুঝায় তবে Reporting verb টি
উঠিয়ে “propose, suggest” প্রভৃতি বসানো হয় এবং Let এর স্থলে Should বসে।
গঠনপ্রণালীঃ Reporting verb টি পরিবর্তিত
হয়ে Propose / suggest বসে + Inverted comma উঠে গিয়ে that বসে + they/we বসে +
Should বসে + Reported speech এর মূল verb থেকে বাকি অংশ। যেমন -
Direct: He said, “Let us discuss the
matter”
Indirect: He proposed that they should
discuss the matter.
Direct: The chairman, “Let us drop the
matter”
Indirect: The chairman proposed that
they should drop the matter.
নোটঃ Reporting verb এর Subject Third
person হলে that এর পরে we বসে এবং Reporting verb এর Subject First person হলে
that এর পরে they বসে। যেমন –
Direct: He said to me, “Let us go out
for a walk”
Indirect: He proposed to me that we
should go for a walk.
⇘ Reported speech টি Let দ্বারা শুরু হলে এবং
তা দ্বারা প্রস্তাব না বুঝিয়ে অনুমতি বুঝালে Reporting verb টি Request হয়। Let এর
পরিবর্তে that এবং এর Object কে Subject করে এর পর May/might বা May be allowed to
বসাতে হয়। যেমন –
Direct: The boy said, “Let me go in”
Indirect: The boy requested that he
might go in.
⇘ কিন্তু Reported speech টি Let দ্বারা শুরু
হলেও তা দ্বারা প্রস্তাব বা অনুমতি কিছুই না বুঝালে Reporting verb টি
‘say/tell/told’ হয়।
গঠনপ্রণালীঃ Subject + Reporting verb +
Object (যদি থাকে) + that + Reported speech এর Subject + might + Reported speech
এর মূল verb থেকে বাকি অংশ। যেমন –
Direct: Habib said to me, “Let him say
whatever he likes”
Indirect: Habib told me that he might
say whatever he liked.
Optative sentence এর বর্ণনাঃ Optative
sentence কে Direct speech থেকে Indirect speech এ করার নিয়ম –
👉 Reporting verb এর পরিবর্তে wish বা pray
বসে।
👉 Inverted comma উঠে গিয়ে that বসে।
👉 Reported speech এর Subject বসে।
👉 Might বসে।
👉 Reported speech এর মূল Verb থেকে বাকি অংশ।
গঠনপ্রণালীঃ Subject + wish/pray + that
+ Reported speech এর Subject বসে + might + মূল Verb থেকে বাকি অংশ। যেমন –
Direct: He said to me, “May Allah bless
you”
Indirect: He prayed that Allah might
bless me.
Direct: My mother said, “May you live
long”
Indirect: My mother wished that I might
live long.
Exclamatory sentence এর বর্ণনাঃ
Exclamatory sentence কে Direct speech থেকে Indirect speech এ করার নিয়ম –
👉 Reporting verb এর অর্থানুসারে exclaim with joy, exclaim with grief, exclaim with wonder, exclaim with sorrow ইত্যাদি হয়। তবে যেখানে Exclamation এর
প্রকৃতি সম্বন্ধে নিশ্চিত হওয়া যায় না, সেখানে Reporting verb এ exclaim বা cry
out ইত্যাদি ব্যবহৃত হয়।
👉 Reported speech এর পূর্বে ‘That’ বসে।
👉 Reported speech এর শুরুতে How বা What থাকে
তাহলে তার পরিবর্তে great বা very বসে। সাধারণত Noun এর পূর্বে great এবং
Adjective এর পূর্বে very বসে।
👉 Note of exclamation (!) উঠে যায়।
👉 Sentence টিকে Assertive sentence এ পরিণত
করতে হয়। যেমন –
Direct: The boys said, “Hurrah! We have
won the match”
Indirect: The boys exclaimed with joy
that they had won the match.
Direct: He said to me, “Alas! I could
not save you”
Indirect: He exclaimed with grief that he
could not save me.
Direct: He said, “What a fool I am!”
Indirect: He exclaimed with surprise
that he was a great fool.
