প্রিয় শিক্ষার্থীবন্ধুরা, আশা করি ভালো আছেন। Notesaid24 ওয়েবসাইটে আপনাদের স্বাগতম। গত ব্লগে Narration বা উক্তি কাকে বলে? এবং কত প্রকার ও কি কি? এই নিয়ে বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করেছি। আজ আপনাদের মাঝে Tense এর মধ্যে Narration কীভাবে ব্যবহার করা যায় তা নিয়ে উদাহরণসহ বিস্তারিত আলোচনা করবো । তবে এই ব্লগটি দেখার পূর্বে Narration বা উক্তি সম্পর্কে মৌলিক ধারণা রাখা জরুরি। তাহলে শুরু করা যাক।

Tense এর পরিবর্তনঃ
যদি Reporting verb / speech টি Past
Tense এ থাকে, তাহলে নিম্নলিখিত নিয়ম অনুসরণ করতে হবে –

Tense পরিবর্তনের নিয়মঃ
⇘ Direct speech এর Reporting verb
“Present tense, present perfect tense, future tense” হলে Reported speech এর
Verb এর Tense এর কোনো পরিবর্তন হয় না। কেবল person পরিবর্তন করতে হয়। যেমন –
Direct: Maha says, “I am ill”
Indirect: Maha says that she is ill.
Direct: Habib has said, “I have done my
duty”
Indirect: Habib has said that he has
done his duty.
Direct: Sakib will say, “He reads a
book”
Indirect: Sakib will say that he reads
a book.
⇘ Present indefinite tense পরিবর্তিত হয়ে
Past indefinite tense হয়। যেমন –
Direct: Habib said, “I write a letter”
Indirect: Habib said that he wrote a
letter.
⇘ Present continuous tense পরিবর্তিত হয়ে
Past continuous tense হয়। যেমন –
Direct: Habib said, “I am reading”
Indirect: Habib said that he was
reading.
⇘ Present perfect tense পরিবর্তিত হয়ে
Past perfect tense হয়। যেমন –
Direct: Maha said, “I have done my
duty”
Indirect: Maha said that she had done
her duty.
⇘ Present perfect continuous tense পরিবর্তিত
হয়ে Past perfect continuous tense হয়। যেমন –
Direct: They said, “We have been
working for three hours”
Indirect: They said that they had been
working for three hours.
⇘ Past Indefinite tense পরিবর্তিত হয়ে
Past perfect tense হয়। যেমন –
Direct: Mahim said, “I wrote a letter”
Indirect: Mahim said that he had
written a letter.
নোটঃ Direct speech এ দুই বা ততোধিক Verb
‘Past indefinite tense’ হলে Indirect speech এ তা অপরিবর্তিত থাকে । যেমন –
Direct: Maha said, “I came home, took
bath, and ate my meal”
Indirect: Maha said that she came home,
took bath, and ate her meal.
⇘ Reporting verb টি Past tense হলে
Reported speech এর Future tense গুলোতে Person অনুসারে shall, will, can, may পরিবর্তিত
হয়ে যথাক্রমে should, would, could, might হয়। তবে must, should, would, could,
might থাকলে এদের কোন পরিবর্তন হয় না। যেমন –
Direct: He said, “I shall go home”
Indirect: He said that he would go
home.
Direct: He said, “I shall do the work”
Indirect: He said that he would do the
work.
Direct: Habib said, “I can finish the
work”
Indirect: Habib said that he could
finish the work.
Direct: Maha said, “I may go to
college”
Indirect: Maha said that she might go
to college.
⇘ Direct speech এর Reporting Verb টি Past
Tense হলে এবং Reported speech টি Universal Truth (চিরন্তন সত্য) বা Habitual
Fact (অভ্যাসগত কাজ) বুঝায় তবে Reported speech এর Tense এর কোন পরিবর্তন হয় না। যেমন
–
Direct: He said, “The earth moves around
the sun”
Indirect: He said that the earth moves
around the sun.
Direct: He said, “I go to sleep late at
night”
Indirect: He said that he goes to sleep
late at night.
⇘ Direct speech এ Thank you থাকলে তাকে
Indirect করার সময় নিম্নের নিয়ম অনুসরণ করতে হয়।
গঠনপ্রণালীঃ Reporting verb এর Subject +
Thank/thanked + Reporting verb এর Object.
Direct: He said to me, “Thank you”
Indirect: He thanked me.
⇘ Direct speech এ Good bye থাকলে তাকে
Indirect করার সময় নিম্নের নিয়ম অনুসরণ করতে হয়।
গঠনপ্রণালীঃ Reporting verb এর Subject +
bid/bade + Object + good-bye.
Direct: He said, “Good-bye my friends”
Indirect: He bade his friends goodbye.
⇘ Direct speech এ Good morning/good
evening/good night ইত্যাদি থাকলে তাকে Indirect করার সময় নিম্নের নিয়ম অনুসরণ করতে
হয়।
গঠনপ্রণালীঃ Reporting verb এর Subject +
wish/wished + Object + good morning/good evening/good night.
Direct: He said to me, “Good night”
Indirect: He wished me good night.
⇘ Direct speech এ বক্তা এবং শ্রোতা উভয়ই
Proper noun হলে Indirect করার সময় Pronoun এর পাশে ব্র্যাকেটের মধ্যে উক্ত
Pronoun টি যে ব্যক্তির পরিবর্তে বসেছে সে ব্যক্তির নামের প্রথম অক্ষর লিখতে হয়।
Direct: Habib said to Sakib, “I have
taken your bike”
Indirect: Habib told Sakib that he (H)
had taken his (S) bike.
⇘ Reporting verb ও তার Subject এবং Object
উল্লেখ না থাকলে ‘The speaker said to the person spoken to’ লিখে Indirect এ রূপান্তর
করতে হয়। যেমন –
Direct: “I shall meet you tomorrow”
Indirect: The speaker told the person
spoken to that he would meet him the next day.
Direct: “where are you going?”
Indirect: The speaker asked the person
spoken to where he was going.
