A Hungry Man is An Angry Man: Hunger is a physical condition that
indicates that the stomach is empty and the body requires food. Hunger cannot
be appeased by anything other than food. It is only hunger that makes a man
work hard day and night in order to procure his food. The pursuit of food is
the chief occupation of every man. If hunger is not satisfied at the proper
time and is left to continue, it creates terrible discomfort. The hungry man
expresses this discomfort by showing anger. Thus a hungry man eventually
becomes an angry man. In fact, hunger begets anger. But anger is a man’s chief
enemy. A hungry man may go to any extent of mischief and continue to work havoc
as long as his hunger is not satisfied. He does not hesitate to commit any
crime if he thinks that necessary for the appeasement of his hunger. No force of
law, religion, morality, or ethics has any effect upon a man whose stomach is
empty. No word of love, sympathy, friendship, or flattery can pacify him. He
flies into a rage at the slightest irritation. His anger subdues all human
qualities and turns him against the very norm of social existence. In a society
where hunger prevails, people may even rise against the established government. All
should. Therefore join hands to remove hunger from society and to create and
maintain conditions in which everybody can get two square meals a day to
satisfy his hunger.

করতে বাধ্য করে। খাদ্যের অন্বেষণেই প্রত্যেক মানুষের প্রধান কাজ। যথাসময়ে যদি ক্ষুধা
নিবৃত্তি না করা যায় এবং ক্ষুধাকে যদি বাড়াতে দেওয়া হয়, তাহলে এটা ভয়ানক অস্বস্তির
সৃষ্টি করে। ক্ষুধার্ত লোক ক্রোধ প্রদর্শনের মাধ্যমে এই অস্বস্তির প্রকাশ ঘটায়। ফলে একজন ক্ষুধার্ত লোক ক্রোধান্ধ লোকে পরিণত হয়।
বস্তুত ক্ষুধাই হচ্ছে ক্রোধের প্রসূতি। কিন্তু ক্রোধ মানুষের প্রধান শত্রু। যতক্ষণ
পর্যন্ত ক্ষুধার নিবৃত্তি না হয় ততক্ষণ পর্যন্ত একজন লোক যে-কোনো পরিমাণ অপকর্ম ও অনিষ্ট
সাধন করে যেতে পারে। ক্ষুন্নিবৃত্তির প্রয়োজনে যে কোনো অপরাধকর্মে লিপ্ত হতেও সে দ্বিধাবোধ
করে না। আইনের, ধর্মের, নৈতিকতার ও ন্যায়নীতির সকল শক্তিই ক্ষুধার্ত লোকের উপর অকার্যকর।
ভালোবাসার, সহানুভূতির, বন্ধুত্বের কিংবা তোষামোদের কোনো কথাই তাকে শান্ত করতে পারে
না। সামান্যতম উত্তেজনায় সে ক্রোধান্ধ হয়ে ওঠে। তার ক্রোধ সমস্ত মানবিক গুণকে নিস্ক্রিয়
করে দেয় এবং তাকে সমাজজীবনের যাবতীয় বিধিবিধানের প্রতি বৈরীভাবাপন্ন করে তোলে। যে সমাজে
ক্ষুধা বিরাজিত সে সমাজের লোকেরা প্রতিষ্ঠিত সরকারের বিরুদ্ধেও মাথা চাড়া দিয়ে উঠতে
পারে। সুতরাং সমাজ থেকে ক্ষুধা দূর করে প্রত্যেক মানুষের ক্ষুধা নিবৃত্তির জন্য দুই
বেলা অন্ন সংস্থানের ব্যবস্থা করা এবং তা বজায় রাখার জন্য সমবেতভাবে কাজ করে যাওয়া
সকল মানুষেরই সাধারণ কর্তব্য।
