Better to Weep With the Wise Than Laugh With Fools: The man by birth is a social being and as a
result, he needs company. A man maintains a circle to live a happy life. A man
who doesn’t maintain a circle is sometimes called unsocial or uncultured. So to
live a social life we have to maintain a chain or circle. But in the selection
of a circle, we have to be careful as a man is known by his company. If someone
makes friends with an educated circle he may learn many unknown things from them.
The circle helps him to enrich his wisdom. If the circle is not very friendly
towards him, even though there is no chance to lose anything. By maintaining a
wise circle even a fool may be changed into a wise one. On the other hand,
if a wise man makes friends with a
circle of fools, obviously he has the chance to ruin himself. A wise man cannot
enrich his wisdom by maintaining the circle of fools and more over the fools
might be the cause of his own loss, though the fools he has to share the
foolish performance of the fools, and in this way he ruins himself. So the above
proverb is a good prescription for the selection of friends or circles.

এবং এজন্য সে সঙ্গ চায়। একজন মানুষ সুখী জীবনযাপনের জন্য একটি বিশেষ পরিধিতে চলাফেরা
করে। যে লোক এরূপ একটি পরিধিতে চলাফেরা করে না তাকে অসামাজিক বা গেঁয়ো আখ্যায়িত করা
হয়। তাই সমাজে বাস করতে হলে আমাদের একটি বিশেষ পরিধিতে চলাফেরা করতে হয়। কিন্তু চলাফেরার
পরিধি নির্বাচনে আমাদের যত্নবান হতে হবে কারণ একজন মানুষের পরিচয় তার সঙ্গীদের দিয়ে।
যদি কোনো ব্যক্তি শিক্ষিত পরিধিতে চলাফেরা করে তবে সে তাদের কাছ থেকে অনেক অজানা জিনিস
জানতে পারে। এই পরিধিতে চলাফেরা তার জ্ঞান বৃদ্ধি। যদি এই বিশেষ পরিধি ত্রা প্রতি খুব
বন্ধুভাবাপন্ন না হয় তবে এতে কিন্তু হারানোর সম্ভাবনা কম। জ্ঞানী পরিধিতে চলাফেরার
কারণে একজন বোকা লোকও জ্ঞানী হয়ে যায়। পক্ষান্তরে একজন জ্ঞানী লোক যদি একটি বোকার পরিধিতে
চলাফেরা করে তবে তার নিজের অনিষ্টের সম্ভাবনা থাকে। একজন জ্ঞানী লোক বোকার পরিধিতে
চলাফেরা কার জ্ঞানসমৃদ্ধ হতে পারে না অধিকিন্তু বোকারা তার ক্ষতির কারণ হতে পারে যদিও
তারা খুব বন্ধুভাবাপন্ন হয় তাকে তাদের নেতা বিবেচনা করে। বোকার পরিধিতে চলার কারণে
তাকে বোকামে কর্মকান্ডের অংশীদার হতে হয় এবং এভাবে সে নিজেকে ধ্বংস করে। তাই উপরের
প্রবাদটি বন্ধু পরিধি নির্বাচনের জন্য একটি ভালো উপদেশ বাণী।
