Brain Drain
Introduction: Brain Drain is a matter
of wide discussion among the people of the developing countries of the present
world. The migration of meritorious, skilled, and experienced people from one
country to another is called brain drain. Owing to this brain drain, the home
country becomes a loser as it is deprived of the services of its better people.
This happens when people settle there permanently. But if they work there for a
limited period and send money to their native land, the country benefits by
getting foreign exchanges.
Reasons behind brain drain: There are
many reasons behind brain drain. The rich and developed countries of the world
try their best to upgrade their structure with the help of science and
technology. There are many brilliant, skilled, and experienced people in the
world, especially in the developing countries of the third world who can
contribute much to the development of the world. The rich and developed
countries give them alluring privileges to work for them. Consequently, the
brilliant and skilled people leave their motherland and settle in those
countries to serve them. Besides, lured by the charms of developed countries,
bright students leave their poor native lands and go abroad to study. After
finishing their higher education, they settle themselves there. Often expert
doctors, scientists, and engineers go abroad and work there for high salaries and
better service conditions.
Impacts: Brain drain creates some
severe problems for a country. Owing to this brain drain, the home country
becomes a loser as it is deprived of the service of its better people. It is a
severe loss to the country because the country misses their service. For
instance, our country needs brilliant and specialized doctors to serve our
countrymen. But if they use their brain to serve the developed and rich
countries, the people of our country will be deprived, and our country needs better
teachers for our educational institutions. We need brilliant and experienced
engineers. If the intelligent and skilled people leave their country for good,
the poor native land becomes poorer indeed losing its better sons.
Consequently, the poor country will be poorer day by day.
Measures: Brain drain is, no doubt,
quite harmful to a country. It is, thus inevitable to prevent our brilliant and
skilled manpower from going abroad. It is absolutely unfortunate that we cannot
utilize our manpower properly while other countries benefit from it.
Disregarding the lure of high salaries and better living conditions, people
should stay home and work for the betterment of their motherland.
Conclusion: Brain drain can never bring
welfare to a country. If it prevails continuously, our country will fall into
abject danger very soon. All of its progress will be affected seriously. So,
the government and the other authorities concerned should come forward to take
necessary steps to stop this tendency. The government should provide better
opportunities and handsome salaries for brilliant and skilled people. It
will surely bring good for the nation as well as the country.
