Essay On Rural Development
Introduction: Rural Development means
the development of the villages. Bangladesh is a land of villages. About 80% of
her people live in the villages. Villages are the main nerves of our country.
So the development of the entire country depends on the welfare of these
villages.
Various aspects: In our country, rural
development has various aspects. The most important of them are agriculture,
primary and secondary education, means of communication, sanitation and health,
cottage industries, fishery, cooperative society, community life, etc.
Agriculture: Bangladesh is an agricultural
country. About 80% of our people are engaged in agriculture and live in the
villages. So agriculture is the lifeblood of our economy. But our farmers face
a lot of problems. They do not have sufficient land to earn enough for
themselves. They are illiterate. They do not know the scientific method of
cultivation. So our cultivators should be trained in scientific methods of
cultivation. They should be provided with improved tools and better seeds. It
is a piece of very happy news that our government has taken active steps and necessary
measures for the progress of agriculture.
Education: Education is the backbone of
any nation. Without education, no nation can prosper. Bangladesh is a poor
country more than 85% of our rural people are illiterate. The illiterate
villagers should be taught reading and writing. If we can remove the curse of
illiteracy, we shall reach the peak of prosperity.
Communication: Good communication is
the precondition for the development of the villages. With this end in view, our
government has taken some practical measures. Many new roads have been
constructed and many old roads and culverts have been repaired. Means of
communication should be developed more.
Health and sanitation: Most of the
villagers are illiterate. They do not have the knowledge of health and
sanitation. The government has set up health complexes at the upazila level.
They have developed a number of dispensaries and health centers in rural areas
to ensure health facilities to the poor rural people. The rural people suffer
from pure drinking water. To ensure pure drinking water among the rural people
many tubewells have been sunk. Nowadays every village has at least one
tubewell.
Cottage industries: Our rural peasants
remain jobless for the greater part of the year. Cottage industries can give
them employment to pass their spare time in earning. So cottage industries
should be revived under the patronage of the government. Attempts should be
made to improve the fishery, poultry, etc. through cooperative schemes.
Conclusion: The development of our
country depends mainly on the development of our villages. So we should come
forward and work with concerted efforts to develop our villages.
