Past Participle এর পরিচয় –

Past Participle এর সংজ্ঞাঃ 

Verb এর সাথে “d, ed, t, ne, en” যুক্ত Verb যদি একই সাথে Verb এবং Adjective এর কাজ সম্পন্ন করে তাকে Past Participle বলে। Past Participle দ্বারা অতীত সময়ে কাজটি সম্পন্ন হয়েছে বুঝায়। যেমন –

The car made in Japan is running well.

উদাহরণ বিশ্লেষণঃ আমরা জানি Past Participle হলো Verb এর Past Participle Form এবং তা Sentence এর মধ্যে Adjective এর কাজ করে। উপরেরে বাক্যটিতে ‘made’ verb টি ‘make’ verb এর Past participle এবং তা উক্ত বাক্যে ‘car’ Noun টিকে modify করে Adjective এর কার্য সম্পন্ন করে। তাই made এখানে Past Participle.

 

Past Participle এর ব্যবহারঃ

⇘ Past Participle সাধারণত Be Verb এর পরে বসে Predicative Adjective হিসেবে কাজ করে। যেমন –

Most of the people of our country are not educated.

Air is polluted in many ways.

⇘ Verb এর Perfect Tense গঠন করতে সব সময় Past Participle ব্যবহার করা হয়। যেমন –

I have done the work.

The patient had died before the doctor came.

⇘ Complex Sentence কে Simple Sentence – এ রূপান্তর করতে Relative Pronoun এর পরিবর্তে Adjective হিসেবে Past Participle ব্যবহার করা হয়। যেমন –

Complex: The television that was made in the USA works well.

Simple: The television made in the USA works well.

Complex: Heat that is absorbed from the sunlight can be used for different purposes.

Simple: Heat absorbed from the sunlight can be used for different purposes.

⇘ Active voice কে Passive voice এ রূপান্তর করতে Past Participle ব্যবহার করতে হয়। যেমন –

Active: I did not eat rice yesterday.

Passive: Rice was not eaten by me yesterday.

Active: who will elect the President?

Passive: By whom will the president be elected?

⇘ অনেকসময় Plural Common Noun হিসেবে Past Participle ব্যবহার করা হয়। এক্ষেত্রে Past Participle এর আগে Article ‘the’ ব্যবহার করতে হয়। যেমন –

Mother Teresa devoted her life to the distressed.

All hate the corrupted.

⇘ বাক্যে Adjective এবং Adverb হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়ে Past Participle অনেক সময় Passive অর্থ প্রকাশ করে। যেমন –

A broken heart looks for consolation.

He is crying beaten by his father.

⇘ কিছু কিছু Intransitive Verb এর Past Participle আছে যারা Noun এর আগে Adjective হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়ে একটি সক্রিয় অর্থ প্রকাশ করে। যেমন –

A developed country also needs to depend on others.

A retired General has come to meet the MP.

⇘ এছাড়া Past Participle Attribute Adjective রূপে Noun এর আগে বসে Adjective এর কাজ করে। যেমন –

Their Principal is a highly educated man.

I found a damaged car on the way.
