Present Participle এর পরিচয় –

Present Participle এর সংজ্ঞাঃ 

যখন Verb এর Present form এর সাথে ‘ing’ যুক্ত হয়ে একই সাথে Verb এবং Adjective এর কাজ করে, তখন তাকে Present Participle বলে। যেমন –

I saw the boys playing cricket.

Don’t get down from a running train.

Present Participle কখনো কখনো “Verb এবং Adjective” – এর কাজ করে, নিম্নে এই সম্পর্কে কিছু গঠনপ্রণালী নিয়ে আলোচনা করা হলো –

⇘ Verb এর মতো Object গঠন করতে পারে। যেমন – Closing the door, I went out. (উপরের Sentence – এ closing Participle – টির Object ‘the door’.)

⇘ Verb এর মতো Adverb দ্বারা modified হতে পারে। যেমন – Silently opening the door, he went away. (এখানে “opening” Participle-টি Verb এর ন্যায় modified হয়েছে)

⇘ কখনো কখনো এটি Adjective এর মতো কোনো Noun equivalent কে quality করে। যেমন – A barking dog seldom bites. (এখানে “barking” Participle – টি ‘dog’ Noun – টিকে Adjective এর ন্যায় qualify করছে।)

⇘ Adjective এর মতো Present Participle এর Comparison হতে পারে। যেমন – The lady guest is the most interesting character, I have ever read.

⇘ Adjective এর মতো কোনো Adverb দ্বারা বিশেষায়িত হতে পারে। যেমন – The film was not so entertaining.

Present Participle এর ব্যবহার –

⇘ Verb এর Continuous Tense গঠন করতে সাধারণত Present Participle ব্যবহার করা হয়। যেমন –

Maha is writing a letter.

They are playing football.

⇘ কখনো কখনো Preposition হিসেবেও Present Participle ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন –

I selected him considering his popularity.

I could not go to the madrasah owing to illness.

⇘ কোনো Sentence কে complex থেকে Simple-এ রূপান্তর করতে Relative Pronoun তুলে দিয়ে Noun এর পর Post-modifier হিসেবে Present Participle ব্যবহার করা হয়। যেমন –

Complex: The boy who is speaking in English can draw beautiful pictures.

Simple: The boy speaking in English can draw beautiful pictures.

Complex: The man who is complaining against the police is known to me.

Simple: The man complaining against the police is known to me.

⇘ কোনো Sentence – এ Object এর Complement হিসেবে Present Participle ব্যবহৃত হতে পারে। যেমন –

I saw your brother flying a kite.

They saw some fishermen fishing in the river.

⇘ একটি Simple Sentence এ একই Subject কর্তৃক দুটি কাজ সম্পন্ন হলে পূর্ববর্তী কাজটি Present Participle form এ প্রকাশ করা হয়। যেমন –

Writing a letter, she posted it.

I went to Dhaka taking my friend with me.

⇘ উপরের Sentence দুটিতে “writing ও taking” হলো Present Participle এবং এগুলো পূর্ববর্তী কাজটি প্রকাশ করতে ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

কখনো কখনো এটি Predicative Adjective হিসেবে Noun এর পরে বসে Adjective এর কাজ করে। যেমন –

The scenery of the village is very charming.

The football match was exciting.

⇘ Present Participle কখনো কখনো Noun এর পরে Predicative Adjective রূপে বসে Adjective এর কাজ করে। যেমন –

I have heard an interesting story.

I saw a running car.

⇘ Verb এর পরে যখন Preposition বসে তখন Preposition এর পরের Verb – টির ing যুক্ত form ব্যবহার করা হয়। যেমন – Maha wrote the letter before going to bed.

⇘ Finite Verb এর সাথে সম্পর্কহীনভাবেও Sentence এ অনেক সময় Present Participle ব্যবহার করা হয়। যেমন – The food being poisonous, I could not take it.

⇘ Feel, find, hear, see, smell, and watch ইত্যাদি Verb এর সাথে Object হিসেবে ‘ing’ যুক্ত form ব্যবহার করা হয়। যেমন –

Mary was asked calling the cattle home.

I saw Maha going to madrasah.
