Electronic mail or simply Email is very
much popular nowadays for its speedy transmission of information and cost-effectiveness. Hence Information provided by a sender is delivered
asynchronously to a point where it can be retrieved and processed later on by
one or more recipients of the sender's choice. There is no need for any physical
presence of both the sender and the receiver. The sender can enter the message
and the receiver can retrieve it whenever he/she is free. The message will
remain in the PC's memory. The transmission of messages is usually done through
landlines (telephones) satellite communications or marine cables.
Email has a lot of advantages to its credit. (i) It is cost-effective. Very little
money is required in comparison to another transmission device. (ii) It is a time
saver, within a very short time messages can be sent. (iii) There is no need for the presence of either the sender or the receiver. Once the message is entered into
PC's it will remain in the receiver PC's memory. (iv) Email transmission is
very speedy. It is four times faster than FAX and ten times faster than telex.
(v) There is a system of using passwords that each subscriber can choose to
use. Hence E-mail gives security to messages.

Electronic mail popularly known as email is the communication of textual messages via electronic means. In this system a personal computer, a modem, and a telephone connection are necessary. It requires an email account number. Email is delivered to individual electronic mailboxes based on computers. Massages can be transmitted from one country to another within seconds. It is far cheaper than telephone calls. Privacy is ensured as the email is delivered to an individual’s mailbox which can be accessed or opened by the intended recipient. An important advantage of email is its ability to reduce the consumption of paper in the office. Nowadays trade and commerce have become greatly dependent on this speedy mode of communication. Email gives us an opportunity to face the international arena. It establishes almost instantaneous communication to any part of the world and maintains a worldwide information network covering even the remote areas of the globe.
