Introduction: Jute is our principal cash crop. We export jute and jute-goods to foreign countries. We earn a large amount of foreign exchange. So, jute is called our golden fibre.

Description: Jute is a fibre of the jute plant. The plant grows up to a height of ten to twelve feet. The plant has no branches. Leaves grow on the stem.

How cultivated: Jute is cultivated in many countries. But seventy-five percent of the jute is produced in Bangladesh. Our soil and climate are best suited for jute cultivation. Our main jute producing areas are Mymensingh, Comilla, Dhaka, Faridpur, Pabna, and Noakhali.

Our farmers plow their land in the months of March and April. They manure the land and sow seeds. They work hard and weed out useless plants. In a few days, green vegetation covers the fields. When matured the plants are cut down.

The process of getting it: When cutting down the plants are tied in bundles. The bundles are then put together under water. After a few days, the bundles are taken out of the water. The fibre is then separated from the stem. It is then washed in water and dried in the sun. In this way we get jute.

Usefulness: The green leaves of jute plants are tasteful vegetables. Hessian and gunny bags are made of jute. Cloth carpets, mat, ropes, and false hair are made from it. We make many things about domestic use from it. The sticks are used as fuel. The fences of the dwelling huts are made of the sticks.

Conclusion: More jute mills should be set-up in our country. We should also try to make the condition or the grower better.
