ICC World Cup 2011: The 2011 ICC World Cup was the tenth cricket world cup. It was played in India, Srilanka, and Bangladesh. It was Bangladesh’s first time co-hosting a world cup and eight of the matches and a grand opening ceremony were successfully hosted by Bangladesh. The opening ceremony jointly participated by Bangladesh, India, and Srilanka was held on 17 February 2011 at Bangabandhu National Stadium Dhaka. All matches in the world cup were accorded one-day international status, with all matches being played over 50 overs. Fourteen national cricket teams competed in the tournament, including ten full members of ICC and four associate members. The world cup 2011 consisted of 49 matches and they took place between 19 February to 2 April 2011, with the first match played on 19 February with co-hosts India and Bangladesh facing off at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. The final match was held on 2 April 2011 between India and Srilanka at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, where India won the tournament defeating Srilanka by 6 wickets. India became the first nation to win a world cup final on home soil. India’s Yuvraj Singh was declared the man of the tournament. The winning team received prize money of 3 million dollars and a replica of the most prestigious ICC cricket world cup trophy, which has been awarded since 1999, and the runner-up team received 1.5 million dollars. The official event ambassador for the ICC cricket world cup 2011 was Sachin Tendulkar and the official mascot was Stumpy, a young elephant. The national cricket team of Bangladesh being in the “B” group played six matches while three of the matches they won and lost the rest. For Bangladesh as a co-host and as a team of the world cup 2011, it was a challenge to finish it successfully and Bangladesh did it.
