Poets are harbingers of a nation. We have many poets in Bangladesh. But among all them, Qazi Nazrul Islam, the rebel poet of Bengali literature is the most favourite to me.
He has gained my love and regards because of his striking personality and versatility.
Qazi Nazrul Islam was born on 11thJaistha 1306 (BS) at Churulia in the district of Bardwman. His father was Qazi Fakir Ahmed and his mother was Zaheda Khatun. They were not very well to do, yet Nazrul was a gifted poet. He lost his father in his early life. He passed his boyhood in sorrows and sufferings. He was undaunted. His early name was Dukhu Mia the child of sorrow. He read in a village for Asansol and took a job in a backer’s shop as a backer’s boy in 1910. Later, a police officer took him to Mymensingh and admitted him into a high school.
He left the school and joined the Bengali regiment during world war – 1. He became a Havildar of the army Contingent. He was with the Army for several years. Whenever or wherever he stayed his pen was always active. He had enriched Bengali literature with his literary genius. His famous poem “Bidrohi” the rebel is a classic creation. His songs are melodious. It soothes our ears and mind. He breathed his last on Sunday, the 29th August 1976 in the Post Graduate Medical Hospital in Dhaka. His famous works are. Agni Bina, Bisher Bashi, Sarbahara Bulbul, Zulfiqar, Bather Badhan and so many others. Qazi Nazrul Islam is our national poet. he had given our literature a new direction.
