A village market is a place where villagers sell and buy their necessary commodities.


A village market is generally situated by the bank of the river or under a banyan tree or by the side of a road. There are different kinds of village markets. Some markets sit once a week or twice a week. Some market sits daily in the morning or in the evening.


Villagers from nearby villages come to the village market. Some villagers carry different goods to sell in the market. They also buy goods of their needs. They make higgling in buying and selling goods. The fish and vegetables draw a large number of buyers.


To the villagers, it is a meeting place. People discuss various matters here. It is sometimes a village forum. Shops of various kinds of goods are found in a village market. There are permanent and temporary shops, also. There are grocers, potters, cloth dealers, rice, salts, oil, vegetable fish, etc. are sold and bought here. It is the nerve center of the village economy. A village market is of great use to the villagers. It is a meeting place too. It helps villagers to build the economical backbone of the village. It is really very important to the people living in the village.
