Man Cannot Buy Happiness (মানুষ সুখ কিনতে পারে না)
What
is happiness? We don’t know the answer but we always hanker after happiness. A
man can buy a costly bed but cannot sleep. In the same way, a man cannot buy
happiness. Happiness is a relative matter and the idea of happiness is quite
different for different people. To a rich man, more money is happiness, to a
poor man who cannot earn his meal the supply of his meal is happiness, to a
very hungry man a good dish is his happiness, to a sick man to come round of
his sickness is happiness. Thus we find, happiness is different for different
people. So how can we buy it? If it is the same thing to all then the question
of buying may arise. Happiness cannot be bought, it must be achieved. But how
can we achieve it? We have to bear in mind that true happiness consists in
contentment. Most of the people in our society are not content with their
position. The more they get, the more they want. So they cannot think of
themselves as happy. We often find a rich man leads an unhappy life. On the
other hand, many poor people are living happily. If we can buy happiness no
rich men of the world would be unhappy. Thus, as we cannot buy happiness we
should try to achieve it and it can be achieved only by self-content.
বাংলা অনুবাদঃ সুখ কি? আমরা এর উত্তর জানি না, কিন্তু আমরা সর্বদা সুখের লালায়িত। একজন ব্যক্তি একটি দামি বিছানা কিনতে পারে কিন্তু ইচ্ছে করলেই ঘুমুতে পারে না। ঠিক এরকমই মানুষ সুখ কিনতে পারে না। সুখ একটি আপেক্ষিক ব্যাপার এবং সুখের ধারণাও বিভিন্ন জনের নিকট বিভিন্ন রকমের। ধনী লোকের নিকট অধিক অর্থই হচ্ছে সুখ, যে গরিব লোকটি তার খাবার উপার্জন করতে পারে না তার কাছে খাবার পাওয়াটাই হচ্ছে সুখ, খুব ক্ষুধার্ত লোকের কাছে একটি ভালো খাবারই সুখ, অসুস্থ লোকের নিকট রোগমুক্তিই হচ্ছে সুখ। সুতরাং দেখা যাচ্ছে, বিভিন্ন জনের নিকট সুখ বিভিন্ন ধরনের। তাহলে কীভাবে আমরা সুখ কিনতে পারি? যদি সুখ সম্বন্ধে সবার ধারণা একই রকম হতো তাহলে সেটা কেনার প্রশ্ন উঠতো। সুখ কেনা যায় না, অর্জন করতে হয়। কিন্তু কীভাবে আমরা সুখী হবো? আমাদের মনে রাখতে হবে যে সত্যিকার সুখ নির্ভর করে সন্তুষ্টির উপর। আমাদের সমাজের অধিকাংশ লোক নিজেদের অবস্থায় পরিতৃপ্ত নয়। তারা যত পায়, তত চায়। সে কারণে তারা নিজেদেরকে সুখী ভাবতে পারে না, আমরা প্রায়ই ধনী ব্যক্তিদেরকে অসুখী জীবনযাপন করতে দেখি। অন্যদিকে, অনেক দরিদ্র লোক সুখি জীবনযাপন করছে। যদি সুখ কেনা যেত তাহলে পৃথিবীর কোনো ধনী লোকই অসুখী হতো না। সুতরাং যেহেতু আমরা সুখ কিনতে পারি না, তাই আমাদেরকে সেটা অর্জন করতে হবে এবং এটা কেবলমাত্র আত্মসন্তুষ্টির মাধ্যমেই অর্জন করা যেতে পারে।
