As You Sow So You Reap: This well-known saying teaches us that
the output of every work depends on the process of doing the work. If work is
done properly, timely, and wisely we can expect a good result. But if it is not
done properly or timely or wisely we cannot expect a good output. A man has to
do various work throughout his life. If we do not do our work timely how can we
expect a good output? The student who doesn’t study regularly cannot make a
good result in the examination. In the same way, the farmer who does not plow
properly and sow seeds timely cannot expect a good harvest. So everybody has to
do his work at the proper time and in the proper way. In Aesop’s fables, we find a story
that is related to this context. In the story, we find a lazy farmer who gave
his servant a bag of barley to sow in the field. The servant was very angry
with his master as he did not go to the field. To teach his master a good lesson
the servant changed the bag of barley with a bag of wheat and sow it in the
field. Some days later when the farmer visited the field, he was astonished to
see the growing plants of wheat. When the farmer asked his servant about the
matter he just replied “As you sow, so you reap”. In fact, the saying is true
out and out in every sphere of our life. If we perceive this fact and do our
duties in proper time and in proper pay, we expect a good output and can save
ourselves from being repentant.
বাংলা অনুবাদঃ এই বিখ্যাত প্রবাদটি আমাদের
এই শিক্ষা দেয় যে, প্রতিটি কার্যের ফলাফল নির্ভর করে তার কার্যপ্রণালির উপর। যদি কোনো
কাজ সঠিকভাবে, সঠিক সময়ে এবং বুদ্ধিমত্তার সাথে করা হয় তবে তা থেকে আমরা ভালো ফলাফল
আশা করতে পারি। কিন্তু সে কাজ যদি সঠিকভাবে, সঠিক সময়ে এবং বুদ্ধিমত্তার সাথে করা না
হয় তবে তা থেকে আমরা ভালো ফলাফল আশা করতে পারি না। একজন মানুষকে তার সারা জীবনে অনেক
কাজ করতে হয়। আমরা এই কাজ যদি সঠিক সময়ে না করি তবে কীভাবে তা থেকে ভালো ফলাফল আশা
করতে পারি? যে ছাত্র নিয়মিত লেখাপড়া করে না, সে পরীক্ষায় ভালো ফলাফল অর্জন করতে পারে
না। এভাবে যে কৃষক ভালোভাবে জমি চাষ করে না এবং সময়মতো বীজ বপন করে না, সে ভালো ফসল
আশা করতে পারে না। তাই সকলকে তার নিজের কাজ সঠিকভাবে সঠিক সময়ে করতে হবে। ঈসপের শিক্ষামূলক
গল্পে এ প্রসঙ্গ সম্পর্কিত একটি গল্প আছে। এই গল্পে আমরা একজন অলস কৃষককে যেমনটি দেখি
যে তার চাকরকে এক থলে যব দেয় জমিতে বপনের জন্য। চাকরটি তার প্রভুর প্রতি রাগান্বিত
ছিল, তার সাথে মাঠে না যাওয়ার জন্য। তাই সে তার প্রভুকে উচিত শিক্ষা দেওয়ার জন্য জমিতে
যবের পরিবর্তে গমের বীজ বপন করে। কৃষক কিছু দিন পর জমি পরিদর্শনে গিয়ে বাড়ন্ত গমের
চারা দেখে অবাক হয়ে চাকরকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলে সে উত্তর দেয় – যেমন বীজ বপন করা হয়েছে, তেমনই
ফসল হয়েছে। প্রকৃতপক্ষে প্রবাদটি আমাদের জীবনের সর্বক্ষেত্রে পুরোপুরি সত্য। আমরা যদি
এই সত্যকে উপলব্ধি করি এবং সময়মতো ও সঠিকভাবে আমাদের দায়িত্ব পালন করি তবে আমরা ভালো
ফলাফল আশা করতে পারি এবং নিজেদেরকে অনুতপ্ত হওয়া থেকে রক্ষা করতে পারি।
