a significant truth. A child is born with some instinctive qualities and
aptitudes. They develop in the child with the advancement of its age and become
mature when it becomes an adult. The adult is no longer the child but it has
now become a man. This man has some qualities and characteristics which are the
developed forms of his instinctive qualities and aptitudes that were in him
when he was a child. Thus the man is the final product of what he was as a
child. Of course, education and environment exercise some influence in the
course of a man’s development of personality. But they do not change his inborn
traits but develop them in refined forms. This is why it is said that the child
is the father of the man. In fact, childhood shows the man as morning shows the
day.

জন্মগত গুণ এবং প্রবণতা থাকে। বয়োবৃদ্ধির সঙ্গে সঙ্গে তার মাঝে এগুলোও বৃদ্ধিলাভ করতে
থাকে। যখন সে পূর্ণবয়সপ্রাপ্ত হয়, সেগুলোও তখন তার মাঝে পরিপক্বতা লাভ করে। এই পূর্ণবয়স্ক
লোকটি এখন আর শিশু নয়; এখন সে একটি বয়োঃপ্রাপ্ত মানুষ। এই বয়ঃপ্রাপ্ত মানুষটির মাঝে
যেসব গুণ এবং প্রবণতা দেখা যায় সেগুলো তার শৈশবের গুণাবলি এবং প্রবণতারই বিকশিত রূপ।
সুতরাং এই বয়ঃপ্রাপ্ত মানুষটির গুণাবলি ও প্রবণতার জন্ম হয়েছে তার শৈশবের গুণাবলি এবং
প্রবণতা থেকে। অবশ্য শিক্ষা এবং পরিবেশ মানুষের গড়ে ওঠাকে নিয়ন্ত্রিত এবং প্রভাবিত
করে থাকে। কিন্তু সেগুলো তার জন্মসূত্রে প্রাপ্ত শৈশবের গুণাবলি এবং প্রবণতাকে করতে
পারে না। শিক্ষা ও পরিবেশ বরং সেগুলোকেই পরিমার্জিত ও পরিশীলিত করে চূড়ান্তরুপে পরিবর্ধিত
করে। এ কারণেই শিশুকে মানুষের জনক বলে গণ্য করা হয়ে থাকে। বস্তুত প্রভাতকালে যেমন ইঙ্গিত
দেয় সারাটি দিন কেমন যাবে, মানুষের শৈশবও তেমনিভাবে নির্দেশ করে ভবিষ্যতে বড়ো হয়ে সে
কি রকম মানুষ হবে।
