A person who has no money is no doubt a
poor person. But a person who has merely money and nothing else is worse off.
Money is certainly necessary for the maintenance of life. But that does not mean
that mere possession of money can give us everything that is important. Virtue,
merits, and knowledge are much more valuable possessions than money, and a
person who has none of these is poorer in spite of his material wealth. He who
has no moral quality or knowledge is, even if he has untold wealth. Poorer than
a person who has all these and no money.
বাংলা অনুবাদঃ যে ব্যক্তির টাকা নেই সে নিঃসন্দেহে
দরিদ্র। কিন্তু যে ব্যক্তির টাকা ছাড়া আর কিছু নেই সে অধিকতর দরিদ্র। জীবন রক্ষার্থে
টাকা খুবই দরকারি, কিন্তু তার মানে এই নয় যে, টাকাই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সবকিছু আমাদের দিতে
পারে। সৎগুণ, প্রতিভা এবং জ্ঞান টাকার চেয়েও বেশি দামি। একজন ব্যক্তির পার্থিব সম্পদ
থাকার পরও যদি এসব গুণ না থাকে তবে সে অধিকতর দরিদ্র। যে লোকের কোনো নৈতিক গুণাবলি
নেই বা জ্ঞানের অধিকারী নয় তার যত সম্পদই থাকুক না কেন, সে যার টাকা নেই অথচ এসব গুণ
বিদ্যমান, তার চেয়ে অধিকতর দরিদ্র।
